Ivelet Bridge Autumn, Swaledale
Nearly seven years after first getting my feet wet to take a picture of Ivelet Bridge in the summer, I finally got them damp again to take an Autumn capture of this stunning bridge, perhaps the finest in Swaledale.
Though I’ve visited the bridge in Autumn on many occasions the water has always been too high and fast flowing to (a) wade in without being washed away or (b) create the desired reflection, but after a few days without rain in October and with a fair forecast the conditions seemed right to take the plunge.
The Swale was still relatively high and wellies would have been overwhelmed, so this time it was shorts (rolled up to the thighs), a pair of water sandals and a very numb feeling as I stood waiting in the river for the sun to light the scene. It must have been a strange sight for anyone passing by. Hopefully the result was worth it!
The Autumn version now sits along side the summer version (taken in early June) and winter version (taken in December).
